I think toyota's trying to compete more with the evo, neon srt-4, and wrx.. but what they need to do is keep selling the celica in the u.s. and get us a decent engine upgrade!

well if they are trying to compete with the neon srt-4, lancer evo, or wrx sti...they're certainly not going to accomplish that by introducing a 170 horsepower corolla.

supercharge/turbocharge it, get its horses up to 300 horses, and THEN maybe.

Certainly those cars outperform the new corolla, but my point is that toyota is a little late in recognizing the demand for factory turbo'd cars.

toyota is enjoying being the best peforming japanese car company. but imo, they will suffer some losses if they are content to just sit back and let other companies (subaru, mitsubishi, nissan) hold a performance edge on typical consumer priced cars.

toyota is risking losing brand loyalty if they continually lag behind other companies in the youth (performance) market.

you're right, turbo/supercharge something already

toyota needs to make the celica have a 2.4L turbo charged 4 with 300 HP and a ROCK solid 6 spd.

Oh wait, they want to build economy cars that run on a battery

Sounds very entising (sp?). I would love if the Celica had an engine like that. For some reason I'd like to see the Celica keep the l4. Just extra bragging rights I guess that a 'four banger beat a v8'. I wouldnt mind even if toyota released a newer celica, an engine that isnt that much more 'powerful' but you could mod the hell outta. Take the RSX type S for example.

ditto, thats what the import scene is about. small displacement, high horses. it sort of a japanese pride thing.

Yes you are saying what we all want, come on guys you know you wish the Celica had 200hp or 220. Man do you know how sweet that would be? We would be doin integras and rsxs like nothin since there heavier (RSX).

that's just a rumor thus far. However, I imagine they will not import the 8th gen.

They want higher sales, they need to make it FASTER.

if you have a gt-s, you should already be able to take on an integra and rsx. you should be able to soundly beat a base rsx and rsx-r only pushes 200 horses. a good driver should be able to top that

yeah it's a 2zz...

what do you mean by single throttle body variant? doesn't the celica only have one throttle body as well?

the thing is, u guys are right. toyota is more focused on economy cars now. the new prius just won motortrend's car of the year award...
